These packs consist of a flexible plastic pouch containing a chemical mixture of water and ammonium nitrate. When the pack is squeezed, the smaller pouch of water breaks and mixes with the ammonium nitrate, creating an endothermic reaction that rapidly absorbs heat and cools down the pack.
